Steel structure is a structure made mainly of steel, and is one of the main types of building structures. It is characterized by steel beams, steel columns, steel trusses and other components made of steel sections and steel plates; the components or parts are connected by welds, bolts or rivets, which is one of the main types of building structures. In recent years, space structures represented by grids and grid shells have continued to develop in large quantities, not only for civil buildings, but also for industrial plants, hangars, terminals, gymnasiums, exhibition centers, theaters, museums, etc.
Steel is characterized by high strength, light weight, good overall rigidity, and strong deformation capacity, so it is particularly suitable for building large-span, super-high, and super-heavy buildings; the material has good homogeneity and isotropy, and is an ideal elastic body, which best conforms to the basic assumptions of general engineering mechanics; the material has good plasticity and toughness, can have large deformation, and can withstand dynamic loads well; the construction period is short; its industrialization degree is high, and it can be produced with a high degree of mechanization; it has high processing accuracy, high efficiency, and good airtightness, so it can be used to build gas tanks, oil tanks, transformers, etc. Its disadvantage is poor fire resistance and corrosion resistance. It is mainly used for load-bearing frames of heavy workshops, plant structures under dynamic loads, plate-shell structures, towering TV towers and mast structures, large-span structures such as bridges and warehouses, high-rise and super-high-rise buildings, etc. In the future, steel structures should study high-strength steel to greatly improve their yield point strength; in addition, new types of steel should be rolled, such as H-shaped steel (also known as wide flange steel) and T-shaped steel and corrugated steel plates to meet the needs of large-span structures and super-high-rise buildings.
Steel structures are roughly divided into light steel and heavy steel. The floor of the light steel structure is composed of cold-bent thin-walled steel frames or composite beams, floor OSB structural panels, supports, connectors, etc. The materials used are oriented strand board, cement fiber board, and plywood. On these lightweight floors, each square meter can withstand a load of 316 to 365 kilograms. The floor structure system of the light steel structure residential building weighs only one-fourth to one-sixth of the traditional concrete floor system in China, but the structural height of the floor will be 100 to 120 mm higher than that of ordinary concrete slabs. However, the difference between light steel and heavy steel is not the weight of the structure itself, but the weight of the surrounding materials it bears.
In addition, there is a light steel structure system without thermal bridges. Steel structure buildings themselves are not energy-saving. High-rise steel structure buildings are often regarded as a landmark building in a city. Since the 1980s, our company has built and is building more than 120 high-rise steel structures, with a total area of about 8.5 million square meters and a steel consumption of more than 900,000 tons. At present, the steel used in my country's steel structure industry only accounts for about 4% of the total steel in the country, which is a large gap from the proportion of about 10% in developed countries. Domestic steel can basically meet the needs of steel structure processing, but there is still a gap in specific varieties, specifications and performance compared with foreign countries, such as high-strength large-size ultra-thick H-shaped steel, high-strength ultra-thick plates, etc. Based on the investigation of high-tech enterprises at home and abroad, our company has made major breakthroughs in many difficult fields.
